ACID/HYDROCHLORIC

ACID/HYDROCHLORIC

Acid/Hydrochloric

Hydrochloric acid (HCl) is commonly used for the neutralisation of alkaline agents, as a bleaching agent, in food, textile, metal, and rubber industries. It is neutralised if released into the soil and it rapidly hydrolyzes when exposed to water. Hydrochloric acid is used in the production of batteries, photoflash bulbs and fireworks. It is also used in leather processing, building and construction, oil well acidizing and producing gelatin products. Hydrochloric acid is used in toilet bowl cleaners to remove dirt and grime. It is used for cleaning mortar spills off new bricks, removing rust from metals and other surfaces, and etching floors before sealing them. This product eats cotton, rayon, and mortar and is very corrosive to metals.

Can you use hydrochloric acid to clean toilets?

After the water supply is off and the bowl is dry, pour the hydrochloric acid on a toilet brush with stiff nylon bristles, and spread the cleaner throughout the bowl and over all jet openings. Scrub until stains are removed, reapplying hydrochloric acid to the brush as often as needed until the bowl is clean.

Why is acid used for cleaning?

Acids are used to remove mineral deposits, rust stains, and hard water deposits. They can remove discoloration from some metals, such as aluminium, brass, bronze, and copper. Some acids are effective both in cleaning and disinfecting surfaces. Acids range from very mild to very strong.
